Arizona Simulation Technology & Education Center (ASTEC)

The Arizona Simulation Technology & Education Center (ASTEC) is a 30,000 sq. ft. facility that provides interprofessional learning opportunities in a high-tech, realistically simulated environment. ASTEC engages learners at all levels of healthcare education utilizing high-fidelity simulation technology with innovative methods of experiential learning theory. The facility is equipped with a 6,000 sq. ft. Sim Deck that includes six patient rooms, three of which can be converted to any type of hospital environment and three that represent an operating room, intensive care unit, and labor and delivery suite, each equipped with hospital-grade gases. These rooms, along with a simulated pharmacy, surround a 3,000 sq. ft., two-story multipurpose area that can be utilized for any large-scale training event, including a variety of procedural-based training stations.

Banner — University Medical Center South (aka University of Arizona Medical Center – South Campus) is a comprehensive medical center that includes an Emergency Department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. The hospital is staffed by Banner University Medicine physicians and is managed by Banner Health under an operating agreement with Pima County. Our specialty services include inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, treatment and education for diabetes, innovative geriatrics care and comprehensive orthopedics.

Tucson Medical Center

Tucson Medical Center (aka TMC) has been Tucson’s locally governed nonprofit regional hospital since it admitted its first patient on November 9, 1944.  Its roots extend back to the 1920’s when the internationally known Desert Sanatorium began operating as a tuberculosis treatment center and health retreat.  This community hospital, licensed for 650 beds, is located approximately five miles from The University of Arizona.

South Arizona VA Health Care System

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) which serves over 150,000 veterans located in eight counties in southern Arizona and one county in western New Mexico, is a 283-bed hospital which  provides training, primary care and sub-specialty health care in numerous medical areas for eligible veterans. SAVAHCS plays a vital role in Arizona health care education as the principal affiliate with the University of Arizona's College of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. Each year over 700 physicians, nurses and other health care professionals from educational institutions across the country receive training at SAVAHCS. Virtually all SAVAHCS staff physicians hold faculty appointments at The University of Arizona College of Medicine.

Tuba City Regional Medical Center

Tuba City Regional Medical Center, located in Northeastern Arizona, serves 35,000 Hopi, Navajo and Paiute tribal members. 

The unique community of Tuba City offers a culturally rich environment. The hospital was constructed in 1975 with a bed capacity of 73. PGY 2 residents gain a robust, rural general surgery experience.

Flagstaff Medical Center is also home to Guardian Medical Transport, a leader in developing innovative, continuous compression CPR techniques that is tripling survivor rates for cardiac arrest patients.

Serving more than 700,000 people in communities across the region, this 270-bed hospital provides our PGY 3 and PGY 4 with general surgery experience.
