The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery serves as the regional referral source for the comprehensive management of critically ill and injured patients at Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, the only ACS-designated Level 1 Trauma Center in Southern Arizona.

The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Acute Care Surgery at the University of Arizona is nationally recognized for its expertise in emergency surgery and trauma care. Many of our providers also support general surgery services, performing thousands of these procedures every year.
We are the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level-I Trauma Center and Level-II Pediatric Trauma Center in Southern Arizona.
Through our clinical, educational and research initiatives, our team is dedicated to bringing the best in surgical care to Southern Arizona while also training the next generation of physicians and pioneering innovations and best practices that will enhance our ability to treat traumatic injuries and conditions.

Our Services
The only ACS-designated Level I Trauma Center in Southern Arizona, our highly trained trauma team remains poised for immediate response 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The team is led by a trauma surgeon with access to subspecialist surgeons as well as emergency medicine physicians, trauma nurses, and therapists.
Research and Innovation
Our clinicians work with laboratory scientists and collaborators to identify gaps in medical knowledge and drive innovations into new diagnostic and surgical techniques to improve patient safety and outcomes. Our motto is to transform medicine and provide the highest standard of care for our patients through innovation and practice of evidence-based medicine.

Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship
The fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery strives to develop in our trainees the skills for outstanding clinical competence in acute care surgery, leadership in their area or practice setting of choice, and for cultivation of happiness in life and career.
International Research Fellowship
The goals of the International Research Fellowship, in addition to research opportunities, include establishment of international relationships and for the fellow to personally observe the acute care surgery system in the United States. This fellowship will allow candidates to bring research and systems experience back to their country.
Falls Prevention Fair 2023
The 3rd Annual Falls Prevention Fair hosted by Banner - University Medicine, University of Arizona Health Sciences and the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns and Acute Care Surgery empowers older adults with the tools they need to live happy, and healthy lives free from the fear of falling.

Southwest Regional Trauma Conference 2023
The Annual Southern Arizona Trauma Conference offers a valuable opportunity for first responders and clinicians to learn and collaborate to advance the quality of trauma care delivered. For over 30 years, we have gathered a remarkable group of speakers and presenters to engage and challenge attendees to expand their knowledge and skill set in the trauma field.
