The University of Arizona General Surgery Residency Training Program is a 5-year, fully-accredited program through the ACGME. Our commitment is to train young surgeons to a high level of competency in clinical and academic surgery and to guide them into becoming professional leaders within their fields of interest.
The major strength of our program is its flexibility. Our graduating chief residents match into coveted fellowships; some have pursued academic surgery, and others enter private practice. While research is not required, it is encouraged and available to any resident who desires to pursue additional dedicated research culminating in a masters or PhD degree.
We offer a PGY-2 surgery rotation in Tuba City, Arizona, where residents work with Native Americans, learning the challenges of healthcare delivery in a rural setting.
Register for UAZ Tucson General Surgery Residency 2022 Meet and Greets Our PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents rotate in Flagstaff, Arizona, serving more than 700,000 people in communities in northern Arizona.
We provide an international elective rotation at the PGY-4 level, providing our residents with greater responsibility outside of the United States.
Another strength in our program is the relationship between the residents and the faculty. We are all very committed to resident education and training. The faculty and residents work closely together to pursue a collegial and supportive environment.
