The Program
The Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program at Banner University Medical Center Tucson is a CPME-accredited Podiatric Surgery Residency (PSR/RRA), with a residency complement of 1/1/1. Located at an academic medical center serving a diverse patient population, our program provides comprehensive and extensive training experience in podiatric medicine and surgery, including reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. Clinical education emphasizes the evaluation and management of complex foot and ankle pathology, diabetic limb preservation, wound care, and limb salvage within an interdisciplinary healthcare environment.
Program Vision
The vision of the program is to train podiatric physicians who meet and/or exceed PSR/RRA competency expectations through excellence in sound clinical decision making, surgical technique, and professional conduct. The program is committed to evidence-based practice, progressive operative responsibility, and scholarly inquiry that prepares graduates to provide high-quality patient care, meaningfully contribute to limb salvage care initiatives, and function effectively as independent podiatric surgeons within diverse healthcare settings.
Prerequisite Education and Qualifications for Podiatric Residency
To be considered for podiatric residency training at Banner University Medical Center, applicants must demonstrate the following educational preparation and professional qualifications:
- Successful completion of a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME)–accredited college of podiatric medicine.
- A minimum cumulative GPA and science GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale during podiatric medical education.
- Evidence of the ability to successfully complete a rigorous medical curriculum, requiring strong critical thinking skills, effective oral and written communication, extensive reading, and responsible, self-directed learning.
- Completion of all required podiatric medical school coursework and clinical rotations in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated understanding of podiatric medicine and a sincere commitment to a career in the field.
- Clinical exposure and medically related experiences sufficient to make informed decisions regarding patient care and medical practice.
- Participation in extracurriculars, research, leadership, or community service activities that reflect a well-rounded background and a service-oriented approach to healthcare.
- Personal integrity, sound moral character, and professionalism consistent with the standards of graduate medical education.
- Interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to work effectively with patients, faculty, residents, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Successful completion of the Banner University Medical Center criminal background check.
- Commitment to abide by Banner University Medical Center policies, including those related to drug-free workplace standards and substance abuse.
