Welcome!

On behalf of the faculty, welcome to the Banner University Medical Center/University of Arizona Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle (RRA) Certification.

Our program offers a high-volume, surgically focused training experience rooted in academic excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration. As the region’s only academic medical center and largest Level I trauma center, we provide an environment where residents are challenged daily and supported fully as they develop into confident, capable surgeons.

Residents receive extensive training in forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction, reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopy, diabetic limb salvage, joint replacement, and internal and external fixation. Beyond operative experience, our curriculum emphasizes evidence-based medicine, integrated patient care, and professional development. You will collaborate with trainees and faculty across more than 60 residency and fellowship programs, gaining valuable interdisciplinary perspective while participating in research, academic teaching, and diverse clinical rotations.

Our program is also the home of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance (SALSA), a leading collaborative dedicated to advancing care of diabetic foot and preventing amputations. With a team of clinicians, research scientists, and biomedical engineers, SALSA represents one of the most productive limb salvage groups in the world and provides residents with unparalleled exposure to complex diabetic limb preservation.

We are committed to training surgeons who are technically skilled, academically grounded, and prepared to lead—whether in hospital-based practice, private practice, or academic medicine. Thank you for your interest in our program. We look forward to shaping the next generation of leaders in podiatric surgery.
