Transition to Residency Bootcamp

Department of Surgery faculty and general surgery residents help run an annual Transition to Residency Bootcamp for graduating MS4 students pursuing a surgery residency. The program includes Q&A sessions with residents as well as hands-on training to practice basic surgical skills.

Fourth Year Surgery Electives

The surgical subspecialty electives allow students four weeks to focus in specialties such as: Anesthesia, Breast, Cardiothoracic, Endocrine Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic, Pediatric, Plastic, Transplantation, Trauma, Care Urology, Vascular and Endovascular.

Senior medical students enrolling in one of the Surgery courses (research, surgery & subspecialties @ Various Locations in the United States, independent study) need to complete various forms that assist us in arranging and evaluating your clinical experience.

Electives

Prior to enrolling in a research elective, students must complete the associated "Independent Study/Research Elective Form." Independent study & research class requests must first be approved by the registrar; once approved the form will be shared with the Department Coordinator. Before enrolling in this course, students MUST complete the associated "891 Away Rotation Form." Students are responsible for furnishing the department and Student Records Office with the name and address of the participating faculty member at the outside institution. Elective can be repeated for a total of 12 weeks (12 credits).

Students are responsible for identifying a faculty member who will act as their advisor during this course. Prior to enrolling in a research elective, students must complete the associated "Independent Study/Research Elective Form."
