Surgery Welcomes New HIPEC Faculty Dr. Carrie Luu
The University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Carrie Luu, MD, FACS, as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Luu is board certified in general surgery and complex general surgical oncology. Prior to joining the College of Medicine Tucson, Dr. Luu held the title of assistant professor of surgery at Saint Louis University Hospital in Missouri.
I strive to approach every patient with knowledgeable and compassionate care and shared decision-making, Dr. Luu said.
Dr. Luu earned her medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her residency in general surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she received the Resident Research Paper Award from the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons annual meeting. Following her residency, she completed her fellowship training in complex general surgical oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.
We are very lucky and excited to have Dr. Luu join our division and department. She is a well-trained surgeon who brings in a unique set of skills to treat a variety of very complex cancer patients with metastatic disease, said Valentine Nfonsam, MD, MS, FACS, interim chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Luu’s research interests include hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), gastrointestinal cancers, and frailty and geriatric oncology. She has published in PLoS One, the Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology and JAMA Oncology. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Association of Women Surgeons, and Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Luu enjoys cooking, hiking, and keeping her toddlers out of trouble.
