Patients who have experienced trauma or undergone emergency or major surgery, such as an organ transplant, often require close and intensive monitoring. We offer a state-of-the-art, 20-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) specifically for these patients.
Patients in the ICU also benefit from an extra layer of care provided through advanced electronic monitoring or tele-lCU services. Our ICU patients are remotely monitored by a team of intensive care specialists who can alert the beside care team of any adverse events so immediate intervention can be activated if necessary. EICU's can increase overall patient outcomes and reduce mortality rates.
Our Surgical ICU makes use of the latest technologies, including noninvasive cardiac and continuous hemoglobin monitoring, bedside ultrasound, and continuous telemetric monitoring. Individual patient rooms allow family members private access to their loved ones and decreases disturbances to patients.
The physicians treating patients in Surgical ICU have undergone specialized training and are board-certified in surgical critical care. They are an integral part of a large and diverse team that includes nurses, nurse specialists, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, and case managers.
This multidisciplinary expertise ensures that patients in our Surgical ICU average shorter lengths of stay and lower rates of infection and of mortality. The team also helps foster a smooth transition when patients are transferred from Surgical ICU to a hospital ward and later discharged from the hospital. We coordinate ongoing care with community agencies to address issues such as home health care, medical equipment needs, living situations, and financial concerns.
