Located within Southern Arizona’s only ACS-Certified Level-1 Trauma Center, the Burn Program at Banner — University Medical Center Tucson treats all kinds of burns including thermal, chemical, and electrical burns that cover 1% to 99% of total body surface area.
Adults and pediatric patients receive comprehensive, compassionate care from a multidisciplinary burn team comprising fellowship-trained burn surgeons, board-certified traumatists and intensivists, critical care and wound care nurses, occupational and physical therapists, pharmacists, registered dieticians, and child life specialists.
Our team offers a full range of services to the burn-injured patient, including:
- Specialized assessment and care planning.
- Individualized wound care.
- Grafting and reconstruction.
- Nutritional counseling and education.
- Rehabilitation.
- Personalized discharge planning at time of release tapered to the patient's unique needs.
- Care coordination with rehabilitation, nursing, and home health services.
Patients are cared for in facilities specifically designed for burn injuries, with recovery rooms that include radiant heat panels and thermostats capable of reaching 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Burn procedure rooms equipped with overhead showers, a tub table, ICU monitoring capabilities, and radiant heat panels are designed to accommodate a large care team while allowing them to safely and efficiently perform full-body dressing changes in a temperature-controlled environment, preventing hypothermia and metabolic losses related to shivering.
