Lung and Esophageal Surgery
The esophagus is a muscular tube that extends from the neck to the abdomen and connects the back of the throat to the stomach.
Blockage or restriction of the esophagus may require the organ to be totally or partially removed. Reconstruction and reconnection of the esophagus would follow. Methods of treatment include traditional and minimally invasive techniques.
Esophageal surgery may be required in cases of:
- Esophageal cancer
- Benign esophageal tumors
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Motility disorders such as achalasia and esophageal diverticula
