Stephen Niemic, MD
Dr. Niemiec is a fellowship-trained pediatric surgeon who provides surgical care at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and trains medical students and residents in pediatric surgery. He earned his medical degree and completed his general surgery residency at the University of California – San Diego, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident and was honored with the Golden Scalpel Teaching Award and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his pediatric surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, receiving the Frank L. Coulson, Jr. Award for Clinical Excellence.
Niemiec also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado, leading studies on congenital diaphragmatic hernia, duodenal atresia, and myelomeningocele. His clinical expertise includes complex congenital anomalies, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and multidisciplinary care of critically ill infants and children. He is widely published and nationally recognized for his contributions to fetal and neonatal surgery, as well as his commitment to surgical education and mentorship.
