Department of Surgery Welcomes New Assistant Professor, Dr. Steven Scoville

Wednesday

The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Steven Scoville, MD, PhD, to the Division of Pediatric Surgery as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, effective October 1, 2025.

Scoville is originally from southeastern Idaho and completed his MD-PhD training through the Medical Scientist Training Program at The Ohio State University. His doctoral research, under the mentorship of Michael Caligiuri, MD, focused on natural killer cell development. He went on to complete his general surgery residency at Ohio State and a pediatric surgery fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Clinically, Scoville is interested in minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology, while also enjoying the full spectrum of pediatric surgery. His research focuses on characterizing natural killer cells in the presence of neuroblastoma, with an emphasis on defining the pathways involved in pediatric solid tumor–derived immune suppression and developing strategies to overcome these barriers for more effective immunotherapies.

We are honored to welcome him to the department and look forward to the meaningful contributions he will make through his clinical care, teaching, and scholarship.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Scoville as he begins his work in the Department of Surgery.
