Iman Ghaderi, MD, MSc, MHPE

Associate Professor, Surgery - (Clinical Scholar Track)

Iman Ghaderi, MD, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, is an associate professor with the University of Arizona Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Section of Minimally Invasive, Robotic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Ghaderi received his MD from the Shahid Beheshti (formerly known as National) University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran in 1999. He earned his Masters of Science in the Division of General Surgery at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He then completed his clinical clerkship and general surgery residency training at the Western University in London, Canada. In addition, he has completed the Association of Surgical Education Research Fellowship (SERF) program. He then went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a 2-year research and clinical fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery. During this time, Dr. Ghaderi pursued an advanced degree in the Master of Health Professions Education Program at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Dr. Ghaderi's clinical research focus is on preoperative risk reduction, the management of upper GI and bariatric patients, and outcomes of various minimally invasive foregut and bariatric procedures. With respect to academic research, over the years he has developed an interest in surgical education with focus on acquisition of surgical skills and assessment of operative performance. Dr. Ghaderi's current research focus is on surgeon's expertise and the cognitive aspect of learning in training of surgical residents and advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellows.
