"Fostering Grit: Building Resilience in Patients and Providers"

Nathan Tanoue, MD
PGY-5, General Surgery Resident

Originally from Honolulu, HI, Dr. Tanoue completed his medical degree at University of Arizona, where he then continued for his surgical residency. During his medical education career, he has participated in research, and has presented various presentations, both locally and nationally. After graduation from residency, Dr. Tanoue will be going to California to complete a Burn and Surgical Critical Care fellowship at the University of California, Davis. 

 

"Prehabilitation: Improving Outcomes for Surgery"

Dillon Gasper, MD
PGY-5, General Surgery Resident

Originally from Ellensburg, WA, Dr. Gasper completed his medical degree at the University of Washington before joining the University of Arizona for his surgical residency. He has served as a leader in various capacities, including serving as the Surgical Simulation Chief Resident and completion of the Banner Health Leadership Development Course for Residents. After graduation from residency, Dr. Gasper will be going to Omaha, NE for a MIS/Bariatric surgery fellowship at the University of Nebraska.

Learning Objectives

  • Incorporate into practice intraoperative teaching and feedback to improve operative performance. 
  • Incorporate cutting-edge surgical techniques and patient management strategies.
  • Incorporate into practice results from recent randomized-controlled trials/studies. 
  • Communicate operative knowledge effectively to peers.
