Our surgeons are an integral part of the University of Arizona Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state of Arizona. We are also accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) as well as the National Accreditation Program for Breast Cancer (NAPBC), and we will be one of the first centers in the country to obtain similar accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). These accreditations are provided only to centers delivering the highest standards of multidisciplinary care.
Our patients have complete and easy access to the additional services necessary for comprehensive oncologic care, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and social work. We also offer more clinical trials for cancer patients and more access to new treatments than any hospital in Arizona. Weekly Tumor Boards are held to discuss, plan, and coordinate the multidisciplinary care for breast, colorectal, melanoma, sarcoma, pancreas, and hepatobiliary cancer patients. The division is active in raising statewide awareness about cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Our surgical oncologists provide state-of-the-art care, including laparoscopic and robotic cancer resections as well as have experience frequently performing operations that cure cancers with minimal impact on quality of life.
