About the Program

The Division of Trauma, Critical Care, Burn and Emergency Surgery at the University of Arizonais nationally recognized and best known for its expertise in emergency surgery and trauma care. Its surgeons are also key to the University's general surgery work, performing thousands of these procedures every year.

"Trauma" refers to serious injuries, such as bone fractures, internal bleeding and brain injuries, often due to car crashes, falls and violence. Since 2003, University Medical Center has been the only Level I Trauma Center in Southern Arizona. It is one of the highest-rated trauma centers in the country, staffed by highly trained and experienced specialists around the clock.

The busiest of all trauma centers in Arizona, we serve a population of 1.2 million people from Tucson, Southern Arizona, Western New Mexico and Northern Mexico.
